Dear Attendees of the “State of Downtown” Breakfast and Hope Cooperative Supporters,
Hope Cooperative is grateful for a community of collaboration that we have experienced here in Sacramento over the last almost 40 years.
In the downtown core we have joined forces with the Downtown Partnership Navigators for years, helping to link the most vulnerable members of our community with the services they desperately need. I have personally appreciated working with Dion Dwyer and his team as they demonstrate the best of business meets humanity on the streets of Sacramento. I am humbled to be in this company. We are also extremely grateful to be a beneficiary of the wildly successful Dine Downtown Event for the 3rd year in a row!!
Our Triage Navigators are embedded in the Sutter and Mercy General hospital emergency rooms connecting people who presenting mental health crisis with the most appropriate community based services and we are also grateful for our hospital partners.
I want to give a shout out to the law enforcement community particularly our friends at Sacramento PD who are often the front lines for homelessness, mental health and substance abuse crises and I applaud the compassion they show and their willingness to be part of the solution.
Supportive housing is a big part of our work and a real long term solution to homelessness. We have worked with our partners at Jamboree housing to support the residents of the Hotel Berry since the remodel in 2012 and if I could ask you all for just one thing, it is to support more affordable housing throughout the region.
If you are a property owner please consider renting just one or two of your units to a voucher holder working with one of the fine supportive housing providers like Hope Cooperative in the community.
If everyone did a little, no one has to do a lot. You really can make a difference in helping us end homelessness.
We are incredibly honored and grateful to be this year’s JVance Stewart Community Service honoree.
Thank you,
Erin Johansen, CEO
