Michael Johnson brings over a decade of experience working with individuals experiencing mental illness, and he is deeply committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of those he serves. As the Program Director of the Inspire Program at Hope Cooperative, Michael led the full launch of the Inspire Program in Yolo County, building it from the ground up. He was responsible for hiring and training staff, developing workflows, and establishing the protocols that continue to guide the program today. Michael is most proud of the strong, values-driven team and positive workplace culture he has fostered at Inspire. With a background in sports, he knows firsthand the importance of collaboration, trust, and shared purpose, all elements that have shaped Inspire’s success. Under his leadership, the Inspire Program was not only launched, but also fully prepared for CARF certification within its first year, an achievement that speaks to the team’s dedication and Michael’s leadership.
Before joining Hope Cooperative, Michael worked across a range of organizations serving children, foster youth, and individuals in group homes. These early experiences instilled in him a passion for helping people overcome adversity and pursue the lives they deserve. Michael’s journey at Hope Cooperative inspired him to pursue a career in social work. He returned to school as a working professional, earning his Associate’s degree from community college, followed by his Bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State. He is currently completing his Master of Social Work degree, with plans to graduate in the summer of 2026 and pursuing a career as a LCSW.
For Michael, Hope Cooperative is more than a workplace, it’s a mission. As someone who has faced similar challenges in his own upbringing and community, he is passionate about serving underserved populations and connecting individuals to resources, hope, and a fulfilling life.
